About

Welcome, I'm Emma

I provide counselling and psychotherapy in Chorlton, South Manchester, and online (throughout the UK).

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, or noticing the same struggles show up again and again, and you're not sure how to shift things. You might be looking for more ease in your relationships, or hoping to live with a greater sense of freedom, contentment, or self-acceptance.

There are many reasons why you might be seeking therapy, here's just a small sample. Perhaps you:

  • often put other people’s needs first, and it’s left you unsure of what really matters to you

  • feel a constant pressure to get things right, to be good or do well, even when it’s exhausting

  • find it hard to relax or switch off; always in your head, second-guessing yourself. Maybe trying to hold everything together, especially around others.

Whatever brings you here, your reasons will be personal to you, and they matter. They might overlap with some of what I’ve described, or they might be entirely different. Either way, I imagine you’ve already been trying, perhaps for a long time, to figure things out on your own, or with the support of people close to you. But sometimes we need a different kind of space. One that’s just for you.

I offer a space where I’ll meet you with curiosity and care, never with judgment. Somewhere you can say the things you haven’t said out loud before. I’m here to offer a relationship that feels safe, grounded, and supportive so we can explore what’s been happening and what might bring more understanding or ease. Our work is a shared process. I won’t pretend to have all the answers, but I’ll be alongside you as we gently make sense of things together and work towards fostering lasting change. Change begins when you feel truly heard and understood.

As we work together, we’ll create room for new possibilities; different ways of seeing things, of being with yourself, and of relating to others.

I know it can be hard to take the first step, especially if you’re feeling unsure, or if part of you isn't even sure therapy can help. That’s okay. You don’t need to have it all figured out before we begin. We can start from wherever you are.

I’m committed to offering a space that respects and values the full diversity of who we are. I truly believe everyone deserves to feel seen, accepted, and supported—just as we are.

I have particular experience working within the LGBTQIA+ community, and welcome and affirm all genders, sexualities, and relationship styles. I’ve completed additional training and regularly attend a supervision group for therapists supporting gender-diverse clients. I also hold a Master’s degree in Gender, Sexuality and Culture.

I also have a growing interest in working with neurodivergent people, including those who are autistic or have ADHD—whether you have a diagnosis or are just starting to wonder if this might be part of your story. While I don’t claim to be an expert, I’m always learning, and I’m committed to creating a space that’s accessible, respectful, and open to different ways of experiencing the world.

I mainly use Transactional Analysis, or TA for short. What I love about TA is it uses everyday language to make sense of what can sometimes feel really complicated. It gives us a way to get curious together about whether earlier experiences might be playing a part in how things are feeling for you now—even if you’re not fully aware of it. That might show up in how you experience relationships, or how certain situations feel familiar or tricky for you.

I also bring in a trauma-informed approach, using ideas from Polyvagal Theory. That just means we’ll pay attention to how your nervous system might be reacting based on past experiences—why certain things might feel overwhelming, or why you might shut down or go into ‘survival mode’ without meaning to. When we understand what’s going on underneath, it can be easier to find some space and gentleness with ourselves.

It's important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with; the relationship you have with your therapist is key to getting the most out of therapy. If any of this resonates, we can start by having a free 30-minute chat to help you get a sense of whether we could be a good fit for working together. I look forward to you getting in touch.
